There are few things in life as satisfying as breaking through plateaus. This past week I was able to break through a weight loss plateau and I feel great! I think having a really small eating window of 2-3 hours a day has really helped me out. I can't get away with snacking or eating too many calories if I keep my eating from about 7-9 pm. I have about five weeks before I do my second marathon and it is great to see that my body is responding well to the increased running and working out on top of my continued experimenting with the carnivore diet. If you haven't read "A Mathematician's Lament" by Paul Lockhart I strongly recommend that you read the essay. Lockhart encapsulates so much of what is wrong with modern education. I can't recommend the essay enough.Lockhart encapsulates the problem in education through painting. If art were taught the way most subjects were taught students wouldn't ever get near paints until they were in graduate school. They would spend the first ten years learning paint theory and the history of paint and maybe then they might get to use a little bit of paint. Education doesn't have to be this way. We don't have to automatically prize abstract analysis over creative exploration and sharing what we discover. I have seen students who have been terrified of science tell me how much they have discovered the joy of just looking at plants, drawing them and sharing what they see. I spend about ten hours a week thinking and honing my writing into ten minute essays. If you like what you've read you'd be doing me a huge favor by sharing my work! #education #scienceeducation #educationforall #educationforchange https://lnkd.in/esb9zQDE

The act of writing and publishing weekly has spurred my creative flow significantly. While I normally write weekly essays I had this science fiction story that just came together really nicely. I hope you enjoy "Time and time again". I'd love some feedback in the comments if you feel so moved. I'd be thrilled if you shared this work with a science fiction fan too! Special thanks to the Counting Crows for the title. #creativewriting #sciencefiction #shortstory https://lnkd.in/em9JjYtD

Sparring, both physical and intellectual, are the fastest and best ways for us to improve our personal and verbal skills. But we are not accustomed to learning how to defend ourselves in a fight or in an argument. This has incredibly negative repercussions as we have seen with Claudine Gay and Harvard as motivated individuals were able to force a Harvard president to step down because they did not like her opinions. This leaves us tremendously vulnerable to bullies who would try and take all of our voices away. In order to have a chance against a bully we need to verbally spar with someone in order to develop the skills necessary to survive. My essay below goes into greater depth on why verbal sparring is such an important skill for the 21st century. I spend about ten hours reading and thinking through ideas in order to distill them into ten minutes of reading. Subscribe if you enjoy this essay! https://lnkd.in/dGBU83MZ

I found a copy of the book "Unorthodox" at work and found it to be compelling right from the title. Deborah Feldman's writing is gripping and her stories are engrossing. However I question the accuracy of her portrayal of events.I was more interested in exploring why I found this book so captivating. I think it is because it was a window into a world that is closed off to the rest of us. We are inherently curious about other groups of people so any opportunity to "take a peek" at a culture that we don't know is inherently appealing. I worry that desire can be easily exploited by appealing to a readers confirmation bias.Read the review below if you find this subject interesting. Special thanks to David Lange for co-publishing the essay on his website https://lnkd.in/eGzdYzNEhttps://lnkd.in/et-Akebw
