In Rise of Kingdoms, one of the main tasks for any player is to level up commanders fast by giving them XP in different ways to further increase their power.
In this article, let’s talk about the fastest way to obtain level and power for your commanders as a free-to-play player!
How to Level Up Commanders?
In Rise of Kingdoms, Commander XP can be obtained in several ways:
- Be active! Yes!
- Be in an active Alliance where people destroy barbarian forts every day and participate in Alliance events.
- Always spend free Action Points farming barbarians on the map.
- Participate in defeating guardians with your Alliance members.
- Gather runes that increase experience gained by commanders; runes appear in the “Holy Sites”.
- A lot of events give us
“Tomes of Knowledge” rewards.
Important: You cannot gain Commanders XP by attacking other players.
Level Up Commanders with Barbarian Forts
This is one of the most effective ways to increase the experience of your commanders.
Barbarian forts do not give experience for destroying them, however, their rewards include 
“Tomes of Knowledge” and other valuable gifts. The amount of rewards depends on the level of the forts.

Level Up Commanders with Barbarians
The traditional and easiest way to increase the level of our commanders is defeating barbarian units on the map.
Doing this, you do not need the help of anyone or to be in an alliance, you only have to use the commanders you want to level up when farming Barbarians.
Best commanders to defeat barbarians. Ideally, Peacekeeping commanders are the best for this job!
Most of these commanders have an extra XP gain when killing Barbarians so they are extremely effective at leveling up themselves or any secondary commander coming with them.
Level Up Commanders with Guardians
Defeating guardians of “Holy Sites” is the fastest and most effective way to increase the experience obtained by each commander.
Each of the Guardians offers a lot of experience, They appear in the Holy Sites every 12h and it is important to always participate in the schedule established by the kingdom for the hunt for these guardians.
Any commander is effective to defeat guardians, they do not consume AP and we can attack them with multiple troops just like a barbarian, therefore, there are no “Best commanders” for this task, it only depends on our choice, choosing which one is important to increase the can.
Tomes of Knowledge
Once you are a more advanced player in Rise of Kingdoms, you can take advantage of using “Tomes of Knowledge” to increase the level of any specific commanders. And this is the fatest way!
You only want to spend a little of “Tomes of Knowledge” to increase the gathering commander levels, and probably on your best Epic commander (Sun Tzu, Boudica, Joan of Arc, etc) while slowly saving them and spend them later on the best Legendary Commanders you have.
Many events have neutral units and when defeating them, you will get a great amount of experience books. It is why it is important to be active and paricipate in all events!
